Meet The Food & AG Experts

The RaboResearch Food & Agribusiness has close to 90 analysts working in local teams across the world. They generate state of the art knowledge, and develop views and insights on businesses, topics and developments in the food & agribusiness sectors across the globe.

At F&A Next, several analysts will be present and available for one-on-one’s to share their knowledge about topics such as blockchain, big data, innovation ecosystems, online developments, etc. etc.

Harry Smit
Harry is a Senior Analyst with the Farm Inputs team. Before joining RaboResearch Food & Agribusiness in 2006, Harry was a Credit Analyst for Rabobank’s Food & Agri Corporates department. He also worked as a Researcher in the bank’s Economics Research division. Before joining Rabobank, Harry spent six years working for the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, working mostly in the Department of International Affairs, where he was involved in several aspects of the Common Agricultural Policy. Harry studied at Wageningen University, where he obtained a master’s degree in agricultural economics.

Nick Fereday
Nick Fereday covers consumer food & beverage trends to do with food delivery, product innovation, and start-ups. In his monthly Talking Points note, he reports on conferences and other newsworthy developments in the US food & beverage space. Prior to joining Rabobank, he was a Senior Economist and Vice President of Sales, Research & Marketing, at LMC International, an independent economic and business consultancy for the agribusiness sector. Prior to LMC, Nick worked as a Senior Research Economist for The Natural Resources Institute in the UK.

Additionally he has worked as a freelance economic journalist, a Senior Economist with the Government of Papua New Guinea, as well as a lecturer/tutor in Applied Economics. Nick holds a M.Sc. in Agricultural Economics from Reading University in the UK.

Wes Lefroy
Wes is an Agricultural Analyst, working within a local and global network of analysts delivering knowledge on farm inputs (AgTech, fertilisers, etc) and the grain & oilseed sector. Wes’s principle area of expertise is in the farm inputs sector with a focus on AgTech. He hosts a regular podcast on the RaboResearch F&A Australia & New Zealand podcast channel called ‘Tuesday Tech Talk’, with the aim of providing insights into upcoming AgTech developments and how they may affect farmers.

He has recently written a report on the uptake of technology by Australian farmers and investigated the potential impact of blockchain on the agricultural industry. In addition, Wes is also part of the grain & oilseed team, providing regular market insights and contributing to RaboResearch publications. Wes grew up on a sheep and cropping farm in Western Australia, holds a bachelor in agricultural economics, and has previously worked in precision agriculture.

Beyhan de Jong
Beyhan is working out of Utrecht as an associate analyst focusing on seafood and alternative proteins.
Within the global seafood sector, Beyhan covers aquaculture, wild catch, and seafood trade. Her research also hones in on alternative proteins in human consumption and in aquafeed. Prior to joining Rabobank, Beyhan got an MSc and a PhD degree in agricultural economics from the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart, Germany.

Her doctoral thesis focused on international agricultural trade policy analysis, specialising in computable general equilibrium modelling. Before that, she completed her Bachelor in Economics in Izmir, Turkey.

Cindy van Rijswick
Cindy van Rijswick works as a Senior RaboResearch Food & Agribusiness analyst focusing on fresh fruit & vegetables. Her fields of expertise include topics like consumer trends in fresh produce, distribution of fresh fruit & vegetables, and the greenhouse sector. Cindy has published various reports, articles, and world maps, presented at several conferences and is instrumental in providing relevant analyses and views for Rabobank deals. Before joining Rabobank in 2001, she worked for the Dutch Agricultural Economic Institute and the European Parliament, also as a research analyst in the produce sector. Cindy graduated as an Economist at Tilburg University in 1997.

Dirk Jan Kennes
Within RaboResearch F&A, Dirk Jan Kennes is the global strategist for the Farm Inputs team. Together with his team, he publishes research on macroeconomic trends and industry dynamics within different food & agribusiness value chains, provides strategic corporate advice, and assists asset management firms in agricultural commodity markets investments. Dirk Jan and his team offer management assistance to internationally operating F&A companies. These companies face strategic choices arising from dynamics within the value chain.

Before joining Rabobank in September 2007, Dirk Jan held various management positions at F&A companies. He studied agronomy, majoring in animal nutrition. Dirk Jan also holds an MBA from TSM Business School in the Netherlands.
