Lars Langhout is the CEO and co-founder of NoPalm Ingredients, a company creating sustainable palm oil alternatives for food, cosmetics, and home care products. He holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and an MSc in International Business & Management from the University of Groningen. He also studied economics at Universitat de Barcelona as an exchange student.
Before founding NoPalm Ingredients in 2021, Lars gained extensive experience as a strategy consultant at Strategy& (part of PwC), where he led high-impact projects in consumer goods, retail, energy, and healthcare. His expertise includes corporate strategy, operating model redesign, cost reduction, asset optimization, and due diligence. Additionally, Lars worked as an MBA intern at Bowery Farming in 2016, solidifying his interest in sustainable food production.
Inspired by an article on yeast oils by Jeroen Hugenholtz, Lars co-founded NoPalm Ingredients to revolutionize the oil and fat industry with sustainable solutions. Their mission is to decarbonize the value chain and reduce land use, offering a viable alternative to traditional palm oil. NoPalm Ingredients – producing sustainable yeast oils and fats as alternatives to conventional palm oil
Founded in 2021, NoPalm Ingredients® is pioneering the production of sustainable yeast oils and fats through the fermentation of upcycled agri-food sidestreams like potato peels and whey permeate. Headquartered in Wageningen, The Netherlands, their innovative solutions provides a perfect drop-in substitute for palm and other vegetable oils used in food, cosmetics, and personal care products. Their proprietary fermentation process, which utilizes non-GMO yeasts and a patented low-capex technology, achieves price parity with palm oil while reducing carbon emissions by 90% and land use by 99%. NoPalm Ingredients® has successfully scaled its technology from lab-scale to a 2000-liter fermentation facility and completed pilot projects with industry leaders such as Colgate-Palmolive® and Unilever®.
