Scaling bioprocesses from lab to industrial scale remains one of the most persistent bottlenecks in fermentation-based food and biotech innovation. While Process Analytical Technologies (PAT) offer powerful tools to reduce time-to-scale and increase process robustness, selecting and implementing the right technology at the right moment is far from straightforward.
This breakout session provides a practical and interactive deep dive into state-of-the-art online monitoring and PAT solutions for microbial protein production and broader fermentation applications. We will review the strengths and limitations of key technologies (including spectroscopic tools, off-gas analytics, in-line biomass sensors, soft sensors, and model-based control strategies) and discuss how they can be integrated into development and scale-up workflows.
The session will begin with a brief, insight-rich presentation followed by an interactive discussion where participants are invited to reflect on their own scale-up challenges, share experiences, and jointly explore how digital tools and modern analytics can accelerate the journey from bench to production. Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of which PAT tools are most relevant for their context and how to deploy them effectively to bridge the scale-up gap.
